New Wichita North High RedHawks Logo Led By Alum

Gardner Design has crafted North High’s new identity to proudly represent generations past, present, and future.

For nearly a century, Wichita High School North has reflected the spirit, determination and aspirations of the legions of students who proudly call it their alma mater.

In 2023, the school adopted RedHawks as their new mascot. Recognizing a need to represent this new brand element in a way that would pay homage to North High’s rich heritage, they turned to Gardner Design. Proud North High alum Bill Gardner eagerly led the process of crafting a RedHawks logo that embodies the school’s heritage and integrity, as well as gives wings to the future.

The team looked to the sculptural artwork that embellishes the school—a group of 16 majestic birds of prey that encircles the pinnacle of North’s historic tower. Crafted by the artist and native Wichita son Bruce Moore, these raptors sparked the epiphany that this kettle of RedHawks has protected this school since its inception.

Gardner Design’s senior art director and designer, Adam Anderson, drew from the prairie deco influence seen in the North High art and architecture to create the RedHawks logo. Inspired by the form and elements of the original sculptures, this iconic mark is packed with power, motion, and tradition.

The project involved not simply a logo, but a diverse brand system more often found in college- and pro-level identities. From rousing school spirit to motivating athletes to heightening pride in our community, the brand helps North High reach new heights.
