Wichita Sports Commission rebrands for the win

In their 25th year, Wichita Sports Commission needed to propel their brand enthusiastically over hurdles and into the lead.

After weathering a two-year pandemic and a major change in leadership, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission faced yet another significant challenge—bridging the gap with a new generation of sports enthusiasts for the betterment of Wichita.

A recent article in the Wichita Business Journal highlighted their new vision to engage sports fans and volunteers.

Now, in their 25th year and with new President and CEO Kevin Jenks at the helm, they needed a branding teammate with as much dedication and enthusiasm to propel their brand over the hurdles and into the lead. A simple reach-out to friends teamed them up with Gardner Design.

Nomenclature

We started by shoring up the name of the organization—after all, most everyone already called it the Wichita Sports Commission. Simplifying the name made the Commission more nimble with its use and easier to recognize.

Highlights ReEl & Team Vision

Our secondary efforts focused on telling the story that highlighted their rich and dedicated history supporting sports in Wichita, while simultaneously casting the vision for the future. We designed a light, inspiring visual identity that could be used across a variety of media and other diverse applications and correspondence. Complete with a reveal animation, it serves as a symbol of past events as well as a recognizable icon of the Commission’s commitment to bringing people together.

The Results

In what could be considered a rebuilding year, the Wichita Sports Commission is positioned to increase its event offerings, become the biggest cheerleader for all regional sporting events, and blaze new trails as an organization taking the lead in getting things done. With the unveiling of their new brand identity and the motivation to make things happen, the sky is the limit for the Wichita Sports Commission and the sports community in Wichita.

“We’re elated to join WSC in redefining this brand for its next generation. One that actively champions aspirational levels of fervor, energy, excellence, and commitment for the Wichita region.”
